A fine peated Highland Single Malt. Smells like an old leather bag with hints of salty notes. My father had an old treasure chest where he stored oriental carpets, once in a year at least he opened this chest and this smell was nearly what I experienced just a few minutes ago. There is also a soft rose perfume in it. After a sip there is also a hint of hemp in it as the herbal part of this Whisky.

With a soft finish there is some peat left on the tongue in the mouth (over 50ppm)

The Ballechin series is the peated experiment of the smallest distillery in Scotland called Edradour.

Ben Nevis is the highest Mountain in Scottland, this one is from Signatory and has been bottled from the Single Sherry Butt no. 2908 and is Bottle no 535. Nose: As allways very typical untypical, has a slight cat piss nose, sorry for such an expression but I cannot name it correctly, perhaps terpentine is a better expression or to be honest ginger is the nearest match. Palate: Not that sweet, more bitterness and strong burning on the tongue. Finish: Pear and old mud hay. With a teaspoon of water. Nose:More gentle pear, butterscotch, banana, little terpentine Palate: Now sweeter and gentle, still slight burning. Finish: Pear and fresh tilled field That one is not for beginners for sure not.

Official bottle tasting notes of this Whisky are: Juicy and mouthwatering with a creamy mouthcoating texture. Spiced pear crumble, ripe banana and toffee are followed by honeydw melon, ground nutmeg and allspice.

Mine currently sitting at the balcony and enjoing the last sunrays are:

The nose: Dark fruits with a hint of dark chocolate, decent old read wine with some pepery note, very little marcipan, line oil and a hint of seaweed salty flavour, white wood glue mixed with an old wooden furniture piece or a old door of a artisanal shackdoor of a goat or swine stable. For me a Glen Garioch shoul have a typical nose similar to a Talisker that has also a very typical nose.

Palate: Sweet and very strong with the full abv.

Finish: More lighter red fruits resting more in the tounge first and then a little warming in the chest, gone after 30 seconds.

Adding two teaspoons of water and gently swirling, no shaky, shaky.

The nose: not very different than before but less pepper more malty, a little beer, perhaps now banana and a little vanilla and a little chemical (do not know what I smell).

The palate: Still sweet and still very strong.

The finish: Still extremely present on the tounge, less in the chest and again a strong wooden mouthfeel.

Why not adding even more water, like another 2 teaspoons (actualy I started with 4cl in the glass). Because the legs are getting oilier and it takes a longer time until they apear. In the nose you get more marcipan. And it gets far more gentle on the palate, so very drinkable now. The finish is getting a little longer.

Added one more teaspoon to get the mist in the glass. Nose is now citrus or orange, palate no more sharpness and finish still there.

Actually a very nice early summer dram.

The Revival is one of the interessting one because it was a very good price/quality wonder. These days it's become a lot more expensive. The production has been stopped in 2017 and should again be available. Also non-chill filtered and no artificial color added has this one been matured for 15 years in Oloroso Sherry Casks. One of my very favourite. Nose: Sherry, Sherry, Sherry, Oloroso Sherry, not too much casks influence as the older brother Allardice. More milk chocolate than dark chocolate. Palate: Sweet, not bitter at all, easy on the tongue. Finish: Middle-long, Sherry and Chocolate With a teaspoon of water added Nose: Lost a lot of that strong Sherry influence has a little cementit glue and more a fruity note to it. Palate: Sweet and a little watery no sharpness is there. Finish: A lot more oak and a furry mouthfeel is there. As written above absolutely my favourite.

A very dark colored (natural) Oloroso Sherry Casks matured Whisky that is unchill filtered. Perls and legs are slowly showing up after about a minute. Nose: Chocolate, little leather, dark fruits but more the stoned fruits than berries. Palate: Sweet, bitter, very sharp on the tongue, mouth wattering Finish:Short, bitter, and a lot of oak casks is there With a teaspoon water added. Nose:Far more leather and the Sherry is apearing very nicely now, I remember when I could try that sort of Sherry beeing very creamy and oily Palate: Still sweet, not that strong anymore on the tongue Finish: Suddenly getting longer and a lot of dark bitter Chocolate is hitting me All in all a very good Whisky.
